Katie Stariha
Katie joined the St. Croix Environmental Services department in 2003. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Geology from UW-Eau Claire and UW-Madison, respectively. Her primary responsibilities include grant management, administrative duties, and working with staff to coordinate environmental and natural resource programs and initiatives across tribal lands. She also serves as a representative on the Wisconsin Tribal Conservation Advisory Council and Wisconsin Tribal Caucus. |

Don Taylor
I began working for the St. Croix Tribe in March of 1990 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin: River Falls with a Scientific Land Management major and Conservation minor. My job title is Field Supervisor for the Natural Resources Department. Some of my job duties include: Spring and fall walleye electrofishing surveys, all aspects of walleye culture, and equipment maintenance. I can also be involved other projects such as wild rice surveys, carp management issues, and the tribal youth forest. You can find me either at my desk in the Environmental building in “downtown” Hertel or at our work garage located behind the Food Distribution warehouse. |

Dave Spafford
Dave joined the St. Croix Environmental Department in May 2003. He has a Bachelors of Science from UW-Eau Claire with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Geography. His primary work involves map making for Tribal departments, updating and cataloging geospatial data relevant to Tribal needs, and setting up an EPA Exchange Network node to facilitate reporting to the US EPA. He also assists with walleye spawn collection, spotted knapweed mapping and other EPA/DNR projects. |

Jamie Thompson
I was hired in April 2008 by the Natural Resource Department as the Fish and Wildlife Technician. My main job duties include raising walleye, helping with walleye population surveys, monitoring wild rice on area lakes, equipment maintenance, and assisting with prescribed burns. During the summer I also go out west and help with wild fires when assistance is needed. Just recently I added monitoring the local deer herd for chronic wasting disease (CWD) to my list of job duties.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin: River Falls in December of 2006 with a major in Conservation and double minors in Field Biology and Criminal Justice. After I graduated from college I worked for the WI DNR, out of the Baldwin office, for a little over a year as a Stormwater LTE and a Wildlife Technician LTE before I came here. |

Sarah Slayton
Sarah joined the St. Croix Environmental Department in August 2003. She has a Bachelors of Science from UW-Eau Claire with a major in land use and a minor in technical writing. She has worked under the EPA Wastewater Clean Water 104 program and also helped to develop the Indoor Air Quality Program. Currently she is the Brownfields Specialist and is working under the EPA Brownfields 128a grant. This grant inventories hazardous waste sites on and adjoining to the reservation to create a public record and also enables Sarah to conduct limited site specific activities including assessments and cleanups. |

Tom Frye
I started working for the St. Croix Tribal Natural Resource Department in May 2004 as a Fish and Wildlife Technician. My job duties include electrofishing in the spring and fall for walleye surveys, raising walleyes and stocking them in area lakes, wild rice monitoring as well as equipment maintenance. |

Tony Havranek
Tony has worked for the St. Croix Tribe since May 2001. He was first hired as a wild rice technician LTE. In September of 2001 he was hired full time as a fish and wildlife technician with the Natural Resources Department. Primary duties there were walleye spawn collection, incubation, harvest, and stocking.
In December of 2007 Tony transferred to the Environmental Department as the Water Resources Manager. The primary job duty in this position is managing the Clean Water Act 106 program. Under this program the tribe monitors physical, chemical, and biological parameters on culturally important surface waters.
Other duties in this position include Environmental Quality Improvement Program and Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project (EQIP/WHIP) oversight, wildland and prescribed fire program management, and Wisconsin Tribal Conservation Advisory Council alternate representative. |

Mike LaPointe
My name is Michael La Pointe and I have been working for the St. Croix Environmental Services since May 2000. I started as a Solid Waste/Recycling laborer and now I’m the Solid Waste/Recycling coordinator. I have been sent to different Environmental certification programs and have my HAZWOPER 40 hr certification. I’m also the Emergency Manager for the tribe, I went to Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland in 2003. I’m attending 4 new emergency managers modules for the tribe to receive grant money and I have 1 more to go. I enjoy working at the EPA office and the people I work with. |

Chad Songetay
Chad started working for the St. Croix Tribal Environmental Department in September 2001 in the Solid Waste Department as a driver/solid waste worker. In 2002 he was transferred to the Water Department as a Water Technician working under the CW-106 grant. Chad mainly works under the CW-106 grant, but helps with field work under different projects/programs when needed. |

Jon Knight
Jon joined the St. Croix Tribal Environmental Services Department in January 2013. He received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Minnesota with a major in Fisheries and Wildlife with a minor in Biology. His duties include developing the outdoor air quality program as well as the Tribe's Integrated Resource Management Plan (IRMP). |

Von Shanks
Von is the St. Croix Tribe’s Water and Wastewater operator. He holds certifications from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in Water and Wastewater Operations and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the community water and wastewater systems in Hertel, Maple Plain, and Danbury. In addition, he oversees permit compliance with both of the St. Croix Tribe’s Wisconsin and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems Wastewater permits (WPDES and NPDES). |

Dave Buck
Dave Buck began working at Tribal Construction in 1996. He constructed and maintained water and sewer systems for individual homes. In 2008, Dave joined Tribal Utilities. Dave assists with the operation and maintenance and sampling of the community water and sewer systems in Hertel, Maple Plain, and Danbury. He continues to be the liaison with IHS for individual water and sewer service installation. |

Patti Edwards
Patti Edwards, St. Croix Tribal Utilities, currently works at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Danbury. She is a member of the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin and a resident of the Danbury community. She has held various positions within the tribe during her 15 years of employment. She is a fitness enthuiest, and enjoys traveling around the country. |
